Canned wine is a growing trend. No longer a fad, canned wine a $45 million dollar business with US sales nearly doubling from June 2017 to June 2018. For smaller portions of wine, I normally get a split, but never had I tried canned wine. So when Right Now Canned Wines asked if I’d be interested in having a sample of some of theirs, I said yes.
Canned wine can be enjoyed anywhere you would typically grab a can of beer – the beach, a concert, or a tailgate. Created by winemaker Olga Crawford, a Master of Wine, Right Now’s collection of red, white, rosé and shimmer goes great with a variety of tailgate treats, including burgers, dogs, and wings. It did take some getting used to, but Right Now’s wine was delicious. They come in the perfect serving amount, so if you just want a small amount of wine, you don’t waste a bottle.
Tasting Notes
Red Number 8 – why Red #8? A trick many restaurants use is to list the wines in order from lightest to heaviest. We are doing the same with their reds. The scale runs from 1-11. This wine, Red #8, is medium-heavy in body with bright red, brambly fruit and a little spice.
Right Now Shimmer – Shimmer is a lightly sparkling, sweet treat that’s perfect for any occasion. This Rosé is full of ripe fruit flavors, with notes of raspberry and strawberry that mingle with sweet hints of honey and buzz with light effervescence.
