Tawa Indian Cuisine Relocates to Glenbrook Section of Stamford, CT

Tawa Exterior

Celebrated Chef Kausik Roy of Tawa Indian Cuisine is moving to a larger restaurant space in the Glenbrook neighborhood of Stamford. A Summer Street restaurant since 2010, Tawa has enjoyed preparing home style Indian cuisine to patrons in their 2-story space amid a flourishing city, persistent construction, and growing restaurant landscape.

The new restaurant is housed in a free-standing colonial style dwelling adjacent to the Glenbrook Train Station, among an active residential and retail neighborhood located 2 miles from downtown Stamford. The large space, divided into multiple dining areas, seats 85 inside and another 30 on the patio. Dressed is stylish wood paneling and colorful Indian street food photography, the space radiates with natural sunlight by day and in the evening morphs into a cozy neighborhood eatery. There is a large outdoor patio component for Chef Roy to provide more offerings to his customers, such as Indian BBQ in the warmer months.

Vibrant and exciting classic, as well as new preparations of fresh vegetables, meat and seafood are the basis to Tawa’s style of Indian bistro fare. Tasty vegetarian and gluten-free dishes are also featured, in addition to Chef Roy’s signature “Indo-Chinese” specialties.

Favorites include; tropical green mango salad with market fresh greens and mango-onion seed dressing; vegetable samosa with minced potatoes and peas wrapped in pastry dough and deep fried; coconut and pepper shrimp with chutney mayo; tandoori chicken marinated in yogurt, garlic, ginger and fresh ground spices; Bengali fish curry with tomato and eggplant; lamb korma with a creamy almond based gravy and a touch of saffron; and Kausik’s now famous crispy okra with red onion, cilantro and green chilli.

Indo-Chinese preparations include; chicken lollypop with spring onion-ginger soy sauce; hakka chili fish or shrimp tossed with long hot chili peppers and onions in a spicy soy ginger sauce; and fried rice or noodles tossed with golden fried minced garlic and crushed dried chili, seasoned with soy sauce and malt vinegar.

Tawa is open 7 days a week for buffet lunch and traditional dinner service and take-out service, in addition to a spectacular Sunday brunch buffet and Indian BBQ on the weekends throughout the warmer months.
