Steak and Baseball = a Great Night @ NYY Steak Midtown NYC

Dinner at NYY Steakhouse, Midtown, NYC

Located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan steps from Rockefeller Center, NYY Steak is New York’s latest premier steakhouse for lunch, dinner, and private dining. NYY Steak presents the ultimate New York experience for both the foodie and New York Yankees fans. The interior pays homage to Yankees, from their custom made signature wall featuring 86 autographs of legendary Yankees, to the colossal portraits of their players placed throughout the three-level space, to the dinnerware.

The menu features prime U.S.D.A. cuts & chops, fresh seafood flown in daily, homemade desserts, signature cocktails, and over 400 varieties of fine wine from around the world.

We ordered our usual steakhouse items – seafood appetizers, steak with sides, and dessert – and sat back and enjoyed a Yankeetini, a Martini made with Svedka vodka, Blue Curacao, white cranberry juice and a blue rock sugar rim, and the Dynasty (Avión Silver Tequila, Cointreau, fresh sour mix, fresh seasonal berries, lime juice) while munching on warm pretzel rolls on our baseball diamond plates. (Are you feeling the Yankee Stadium vibe now?)

Seared Scallops

We were presented with a delicious amuse bouche – seared scallops over corn, tomato, and edamame, topped with thin shavings on candied ginger. Such a refreshing dish. If you see this on the menu, get it and pair with a glass of Champagne.

Burrata

Next came a plate of burrata with micro greens, pickled onion and a drizzle of olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar, served with a buttered pretzel roll.

Next up at bat was the Raw Bar Sampler for two. Presented on a two-tier tower were chilled lobster, colossal shrimp, East and West Coast oysters, clams, Alaskan king crab, ahi tuna tartare and lump crab meat. The lobster claw and tell fell off the shell. The oysters were delicious. I was a bit disappointed with the king crab and lump crab, which were dressed in olive oil. I’m a purist and believe good seafood is best presented naked.

For the main course, we shared the Long Bone Rib Eye, a 27 oz. char-grilled steak that had our daughter’s name etched into the char of the bone. It wasn’t a surprise to Jay, as he has dined at NYY Steak at Yankee Stadium. But I was pretty happy to see it. I’ll admit I was wondering why the waiter asked us to spell our daughter’s name numerous times. For the sides, we had creamed spinach, macaroni and cheese, and duck fat potatoes. Skip the mac and get the potatoes. Don’t worry about what your conscience is telling you.

For dessert, we had the New York Style Cheesecake with sour cherry compote, coffee syrup, graham cracker crust and the Brownie Sundae with vanilla ice cream, fudge brownies, Cracker Jack, pretzels, chocolate sauce. Our favorite was the brownie sundae – with layers of deliciousness – starting from the top – whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, a thick layer of fudge brownie, and pretzels at the bottom. Each bite was decadent, and made me think ‘yup, NYY has hit a home run with this.’ Afterwards, I indulged in a glass of 20 year old Fonseca Tawny Port.

Service at NYY Steak is top notch. Our server, Robert, was fantastic and made excellent recommendations and wine pairings for each course.

Interior

In addition to the beautiful main dining room, the restaurant has plenty of space for private dining and parties, including one room built into a bank vault (I guessed the vault was still in place because they took over the former building of Banco Popular).

If you haven’t dined at NYY Steak, be sure to take advantage of the NYC Restaurant Week menu where you can enjoy a three-course lunch for $25 and dinner for $35 now through August 14.
