The Generous Pour Wine Event 2015 at The Capital Grille, Stamford

Flight of Red Wine

The Capital Grille’s Generous Pour Wine Event is back for the summer. Now through August 30, 2015, for $28 per person with dinner ($34 in Pennsylvania), The Capital Grille will offer eight remarkable wines crafted, designed or owned by women from some of California’s most acclaimed vineyards. Guests are invited to explore and enjoy as many of these remarkable wines and varietals as they like.

Each year, we take advantage of this deal at The Capital Grille in Stamford, CT. Like most wine tastings, your server will provide tasting notes and suggest pairings for each course, based on individual preferences. You can try all eight wines, or select which you’d like to sample. Afterwards, you can request another pour.

Amuse Bouche

Here’s what we enjoyed:

Galerie “Naissance” Sauvignon Blanc from Winemaker Laura Diaz Muñoz

Tasting Notes: Lovely aromas of white peach, pink grapefruit, and jasmine, followed by flavors of citrus with a hint of pineapple, and a bight, lingering finish.

Food Pairing: The crisp, well-balanced wine paired well with the Cold Shellfish Platter (Chilled 1 lb lobster, Shrimp Cocktail and Oysters on the half shell) and Jumbo Lump Crab Cocktail. Also, great with the Amuse Bouche of shrimp, cilantro, and red onion.

Cambria “Julia’s Vineyard” Pinot Noir by Winemaker Denise Shurtleff

Tasting Notes: Bright purple in color, with spicy aromas and red fruit and dark berry flavors, this Pinot Noir has a solid tannin structure.

Food Pairing: The taste of sweet and tart berries paired well with the Seared Tenderloin with Butter Poached Lobster Tails, one of my favorite main courses.

Arrowood Cabernet Reserve Speciale Cabernet Sauvignon by Winemaker Kristina Werner

Tasting Notes: 100-year-old vines add to the rich complexity of this lush wine. Enjoy aromas of black cherry, toast, and crème de cassis blended with flavors of dark berry and cedar.

Food Pairing: This cabernet was delicious with the Porcini Rubbed Bone-In Ribeye with 15-Year Aged Balsamic, The Capital Grille’s signature steak, prepared with delicate porcini mushroom crust.

Kinton Syrah by Wine Visionary Julia Jackson – featured exclusively at The Capital Grille for The Generous Pour event

Tasting Notes:  Medium bodied with aromas of blueberry, vanilla, and spice with a hint of leather and blueberry jam that linger at the finish.

Food Pairing: Excellent with red meat. Though we didn’t order it that evening, it would go well with the Bone-In Kona Crusted Dry Aged NY Strip with Shallot Butter.

The Capital Grille Stamford Generous Pour

To complete our meal, we had glasses of our favorite wine of the evening, Cambria “Julia’s Vineyard” Pinot Noir, and shared the delicious Seasonal Berry Shortcake with lemon blueberry bread and Amaretto cream.

As always, we had a wonderful dining experience. We have plans on coming back a couple more times before The Generous Pour is over, particularly during Stamford’s Summer Restaurant Week at the end of August.
