A Taste of What Texas de Brazil NYC Has to Offer

Texas de Brazil Caipirinha

Texas de Brazil Caipirinha

Texas de Brazil opened its first New York City location at 1011 Third Avenue earlier this month. I stopped by for a cocktail and light bites with an old friend. All of Texas de Brazil’s cocktails are made with Cachaça, the national spirit of Brazil. With delicious ingredients and Brazilian-themed names like The Rio Cosmo (lime, triple sec, cranberry juice and simple syrup) and The Samba (a lemonade style drink made with Cachaça), it was hard to narrow it down to one. I decided to try their signature lime Caipirinha (a traditional Brazilian cocktail made with LeBlon Natural Cane Cachaça, lime and sugar), while my friend had the passion fruit Caipirinha. Both were delicious, and strong – just how a Caipirinha should be.

Texas de Brazil’s bar menu features a combination of the meat selections including sausage, filet mignon or chicken wrapped in bacon, rack of lamb, and Picanha (top sirloin). Each plate is served with chimichurri sauce and a basket of warm cheese bread. Of the meats, I loved the chicken wrapped in a bacon (hello…bacon) and the lamb chops. The chicken was flavorful and juicy, and the lamb was grilled to perfection — served medium, with a good crust, and tender meat. The chimichurri wasn’t needed, but still tasted great when used to dip the meat into. The cheese bread,  Pão de Queijo, was so delicious it was tough to eat just one.

Next time we’ll try the full menu which features an extensive selection of 16 meats, all prepared in the traditional Brazilian method – over an open flame – and carved tableside by the restaurant’s authentically costumed Brazilian cowboys, or “Gauchos.” They’ve also got a gourmet salad area features more than 50 items, namely, among others Brazilian Black Beans with Pork, Hearts of Palm, and Tangy Tabbouleh.
