Recently Dinosaur Bar-B-Que opened its sixth location in Stamford, CT. We finally had a chance to stop by for lunch to get our barbecue fix. Joining us in the barbecue adventure was another couple who’s dined at the original Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in Syracuse, and at their other location in Harlem.

For starters, we recommend the Sausage, Cheese & Crackers – a good portion to share amongst a group. This appetizer is served on a wooden block with homemade smoked “Hot Link” sausage served with house pimento cheese on black pepper cheddar crackers topped with pickled onions. Eat ’em quick before the crackers get soggy. They’re pretty tasty, and doesn’t fill you up before getting the main course.
With so many options to choose from, we say go with the Sweetheart Deal for Two. Not a bad deal for $28. You get a Full Rack of their St. Louis cut ribs (12 ribs), four homemade sides and two pieces of cornbread. This will keep 2 people full, and still have leftovers to pack in a doggy bag.

About them ribs – Dinosaur Bar-B-Que ribs are dry rubbed and slow pit smoked, then lightly glazed with their original BBQ sauce. Sure they’ve got more sauce on the table, but you probably won’t need it because they’ve got the perfect amount of sauce on the meat.
The sides…They’ve got plenty of them – both hot and cold. We love the Bar-B-Que beans – smoky and a little sweet beans with chunks of sausage in it, and lots of it. And you can’t go wrong with the macaroni and cheese – rich, creamy and it’s got a little kick. The potato salad was also delicious. I’ll admit I’m not a fan of potato salad that has a lot of mayo in it, so Dinosaur’s was just right, with the right amount of chopped celery and a dusting of cayenne pepper.

Overall, a great dining experience. Didn’t have room for dessert, but we’ll see if we can try to get that far next time. If you’re in town, stop on by. In a rush? You can order food for takeout.
