Henry’s at the Farm @ Buttermilk Falls Inn + Spa in Milton, NY

Henry’s Farm to Table, the destination restaurant that opened last spring at the enchanting full service resort Buttermilk Falls Inn + Spa situated on a 75-acre estate along the banks of the Hudson River, is now Henry’s at the Farm – a nod to the property’s 40-acre organic farm, which provides the restaurant with produce, fruit, herbs, honey and eggs.

After exploring the towns in Hudson Valley, we stopped by for dinner. For starters we tried the Meatballs in a Smoky Red Tomato Sauce. The meatballs were about 3 ounce pieces sold at $3.50 a piece. Two is good to start with so you don’t spoil your appetite for the main course. The meatballs are tender and moist, and the sauce was delicious.

The gazpacho was another delicious item off their starter menu. Henry’s gazpacho is made with local heirloom tomatoes, red onion, cucumber, and jalapeño topped with cilantro, sprig onions (scallions) and  avocado ice cream. The soup was light and refreshing. Though the ice cream flavor sounds strange, trust us, it’s pretty good.

Another delicious dish we tried was Tagliatelle with Chanterelle mushrooms, corn, and truffle oil. One of my favorite items off their menu, the dish is rich and full of flavor. The corn was bursting with flavor (probably the best corn I’ve had all season). The Chanterelles were cooked perfectly, and the right amount of truffle oil dressed the freshly made pasta.

For the main course, we tried the Chipotle Hereford Beef Short Ribs accompanied by housemade cornbread and local bitter greens. The ribs were tender and meaty and coated with a mildly spicy chipotle sauce. The cornbread was fantastic – a small loaf with kernels of corn in it, glazed with sweet honey. Good news – if you don’t order this dish, the cornbread is also served as a side item.

Off their specials for the evening, we tried the filet with asparagus and roasted vegetables. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned.

To end the meal on a sweet note, we tried the Apple Crisp with Vanilla Ice Cream. The apple crisp was made with thin slices of three kinds of apples: McIntosh, Gala, and Honeycrisp. Each bite was savory and the granola on top added a wonderful crunch. If I wasn’t so full, I probably would order another one.

Overall, a great dining experience. The food and service were excellent. We highly recommend dining here if you’re in the area.

Henry’s at the Farm is open four days a week for lunch, Wednesday through Saturday, as well as for dinner. On Sundays Henry’s is open for brunch and dinner.
