Recipe: Mussels Steamed in White Wine

Mussels in White Wine

Steamed mussels is an easy dish to make. It only requires a few simple ingredients. I normally use Prince Edward Island (PEI) mussels since they’re almost always available at the market, but you can also use blue mussels. A good bottle of white wine is key as well. After all, you don’t want to cook with a wine you wouldn’t drink.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat
  2. Sauté the shallots in butter stirring occasionally until tender, 4-5 minutes.
  3. Add garlic and thyme sprigs and saute for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Add the mussels and pour the wine over the mussels. Season with salt and pepper
  5. Turn up the heat to high, and bring to a boil.
  6. Cover, and steam over medium heat just until mussels open, about 10 minutes.
