Station Eats is open in Stamford

The organic burgers and hot dog restaurant Station Eats opened its second location at 3 Landmark Square in Stamford, CT. The modern restaurant is much bigger than the New Canaan location with several booths, tables-for-two, a communal table, and, in a couple weeks, tables outside on the large terrace overlooking Atlantic Street.

On the menu are customized, made-to-order, organically raised beef and veggie burgers, nitrate/nitrite free hot dogs, sloppy joes, salad, organic fries, antibiotic and hormone-free milkshakes, and a selection of beer and wine.

We recommend the Station Burger topped with American cheese, station sauce, lettuce, and tomato. Don’t forget to select additional toppings like thick cut bacon, blue cheese, station chili, or their potato chips. They’ve also got a variety of sauces to drizzle onto your meal from wasabi cucumber sauce to dijon mustard to BBQ sauce.

The owner, Nick Type, has told us all the items at Station Eats are made by them, except for the crunchy onions which come from Denmark. The crunchy onions was our favorite topping. Think of them as the crunchy shallots you get at Asian restaurants. We put them on our burger and hot dog.

Speaking of hot dogs…
The beef hot dogs are great too. They’re sliced length-wise and grilled and placed between a toasted potato bun. They’ve got a snap to it once you bite into it. Hot dogs normally get a bad rap. You think of fillers and fat, and stuff you wouldn’t want to eat. But that’s not what you get here. The hot dogs at the Station Eats are organic and flavorful. They won’t leave you regretting eating it.

No meal is complete without fries. There are several items to choose from: plain, cheese, chili, chili cheese, or the ultra fries. The ultra fries are organic fries topped with station cheese sauce, carmelized onions, station sauce. The chili fries are excellent too.

U-Turn
They’ve got milkshakes for the kids, and the adults. For the adults, there are 3 choices under the Hi-Octane Menu:
  • U-turn – bourbon, Oreos, chocolate
  • red light – vodka, strawberry, graham crackers
  • freeway – kahlua, vodka, vanilla
We tried the U-turn. What a treat! Bourbon are chocolate are a perfect combination. It’s like having a dessert and a drink at the same time. No, you won’t walk out tipsy after having a milkshake, but maybe after a couple. Hold onto the spoon, you can use it to scoop out the bourbon-soaked Oreos. Woo that has a kick!

Station Eats also has special burgers and milkshakes on the menu every month. For the month of February, you can get the Rueben Burger at the New Canaan location. In March, both restaurants will offer the Buffalo Wing Burger and the Irish Cream Milkshake (non-alcoholic). Keeping with the March Madness spirit, the Buffalo Wing Burger includes a single burger patty with toppings of house made Buffalo Wing Sauce, crumbled Blue Cheese and topped with celery.

Station Eats is situated in the heart of Stamford’s shopping district within walking distance of the Metro North Stamford train station and easily accessible from both I-95 and the Merritt Parkway.

Introductory hours have been established as Monday – Saturday 11.30am – 7pm and Sunday 12 noon – 7pm. The hours will be extended in the spring. Station Eats is located at 3 Landmark Square. The easiest way to get there is to enter at Atlantic Street and go up a flight of stairs. It’s located above my favorite cobbler: Izet’s Leather & Shoe Repair (60 Atlantic Street).
