A gas station isn’t a place where you’d expect to find great food. North Shore Grindz, located in the Chevron gas station in Princeville Center on the north side of Kauai serves ono grindz. On the menu are burgers, pizza, and plate lunch, with most items priced under $10.
My favorite plate lunch is the chili chicken, served with rice and mac salad. The mac salad was unique and delicious- typical mac salad but with black olives. The chili chicken was fried to perfection and topped with a great chili pepper sauce. It was so good, I had it two days in a row.
For breakfast, try a loco moco – beef patties topped with gravy, 2 fried eggs, and rice. A big portion enough for two to share.
The pizza here is decent. It’s tough for me to like pizza outside of the NY tristate area. As for the burgers, I’ve heard from the locals that they’re great. I’ll take their word for it, as they’re often right.
The staff is friendly, and the cashier will definitely work her upsell techniques and remind you to get a drink, beer, or desserts. We gave in and tried their Reeses peanut butter cookies – not bad.
