Stamford Restaurant Week Summer 2011: The Capital Grille

Last night I dined at The Capital Grille to take advantage of their Restaurant Week menu. The summer menu was the same as the Winter 2011 menu. Regardless, it’s still great deal for a 3-course lunch for $20.11 or dinner for $30.11.

Below is the dinner menu:

For starters, we had the clam chowder, which was served in a small cup filled with chunks of potato and clams.

I tried the Morel Mushoom Crusted Tournedos. Tournedos are the central portion of the beef tenderloin (think of a filet mignon but it’s technically not). I decided to make my dish a Surf and Turf, with a lobster tail for an additional $10. I’m glad I did. I ordered the meat medium-rare. It was tender and very flavorful. The lobster added a nice touch – succulent and tender – it didn’t even need butter. My husband had the Kona-crusted sirloin, another great item off the menu.

The sides are about half the size of what you’d normally get off the regular menu, but that’s all you need with a three-course dinner. The mashed potatoes were great – not too buttery and with chunks of potato in it. The creamed spinach is also on the lighter side, unlike many other steakhouses that douse it up in cream.

For dessert, I ordered the Vanilla ice cream, which was nothing special. The flourless chocolate espresso cake was good, but would be better for a chocolate lover. Pair them together, and you’ve got a great combo.

Another great deal to take advantage of is the The Generous Pour Summer Wine Event going on until September 4, 2011. For just $25 with dinner, you can sample an ounce of 9 wines (reds, whites, and a port). If you want, you can just go with your preferred choice of wine and get more than an ounce – say if red is your preference, you can try bigger pours of the reds, and skip out on the white wine selection. For more information on The Generous Pour, visit thecapitalgrille.com. Here’s a video from their Master Sommelier.

Like any other dining experience I’ve had at The Capital Grille, I walked away satisfied, with the food and service. I highly recommend it. If you are in town, try to make reservations and take advantage of the restaurant week specials.
