NYC Restaurant Week Summer 2011: Quality Meats

NYC Restaurant Week is the perfect time to try out new restaurants, or even return to your favorites, for a great price for prix fixe menus – $24.07 for lunch, and $35 for dinner. Realizing it’s been a couple years since I’ve last dined at Quality Meats, I decided to stop by for lunch.

Quality Meats serves just that – quality meats – in Midtown Manhattan. The restaurant was created by Fourth Wall Restaurants, the company that also runs The Hurricane Club and Smith & Wollensky.

With only 3 days left of Restaurant Week, you’ve got to take advantage of the prix fixe lunch menu at Quality Meats. Here’s what on the menu:

Appetizers
Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese Croutons
Seared Diver Scallops with Creamed Corn
Caesar Salad
Steak Tartare

Entrees
Baby Back Ribs
Hanger Steak with Brandied Cherries
Green Goddess Salad with Grilled Chicken
Open-Faced Shrimp Salad Sandwich
Brandt Beef Skirt Steak Frites ($10 supplement)
Lobster Salad ($10 supplement)

Choice of Dessert
A selection of sherbert, sorbet and ice cream

You can also throw in a few more bucks and get a glass of the sommelier’s choice of red or white wine. Your meal will total $30 – a bargain for what you get.

My recommendations:

If you’re into raw meat, try the steak tartare, which is enough for two people. Mix the egg, salt, and other seasonings – add some Worchestershire and Tabasco – and you’ve got a great appetizer. I really like steak tartare, and this was an interesting presentation, and was quite satisfying.
