Stamford: Chavín Peruvian Bistro

There are a handful of Peruvian restaurants in Stamford. Only steps away from my favorite Peruvian restaurant in the area, Fiesta, is Chavín Peruvian Bistro, which opened in Spring 2009. Chavín offers typical Peruvian dishes, including Saltado, Chaufa, and Ceviche.

My favorite dish at Chavín is the lomo saltado, stir-fried beef sautéed with olive oil, soy sauce, and tomatoes served over French fries with a side of rice. The dish is delicious and savory, although it doesn’t beat Fiesta’s version. Chaufa is a Peruvian fried rice with eggs and scallions. The Arroz Chaufa de Pollo – chaufa with chicken – is another great dish, especially if you love rice. If you don’t mind a little heat in your dish, add some of the Peruvian green aji sauce.

The restaurant transports you away from Stamford and into Peru, with its authentic food, friendly staff, and wonderful ambiance. I recommend Chavín if you haven’t dined here. Not in Stamford? Chavín has two locations – the other is in Port Chester, which serves Pollo a la Brasa (Peruvian rotisserie chicken).
