NYC: Bill’s Bar & Burger

Bill’s Bar & Burger (Twitter: @billsnyc) is part of the BR Guest Hospitality chain and opened a second location in Rockefeller Center at the former home of Tuscan Square.

For starters, the Jalapeño Bombs, $7.50, are great treats to share with a group of friends. Jalapeño Bombs are crispy little bundles of spicy pepper trio mixed with cheddar and cream cheese, and ranch. Be careful when they’re served – they’re hot as in hot out of the fryer.

The burgers at this restaurant are also delicious. The burgers are not overwhelmingly big – they’re a perfect size of 5 oz. Enough to fill the belly, and still save room for beer, or dessert, like the super rich Turtle Cheesecake. If you don’t have a craving for burgers, they’ve got salads, hot dogs, and sandwiches.

They’ve got a great beer menu, with beer from all over the world. I was quite pleased with their selection of local and Belgian beer, including my favorites Delirium Tremens, Chimay Rouge, and Rochefort 8 Abbey (9.2% ABV). A good beer from Pennsylvania is the Cold Ass Beer (yes, that’s really the name) – it’s available on tap for $7 a pint, or $24 for a 60 oz pitcher.

So if you’re near any of their two locations, do stop by – it’s a great experience, especially after work when you want to unwind and have some good grub and inexpensive beer.
