East Norwalk, CT: The Beach Burger

The Beach Burger (@Thebeachburger) is a burger joint in East Norwalk, CT serving up delicious 100% certified all natural grass-fed beef and amazing milkshakes. The Beach Burger is run by tv show Chopped Champion Chef Marc Anthony Bynum and business partner Anthony Luciani.

The exterior of the building was plain, but stepping into the restaurant you feel as though you’ve been transported to a beach – beach balls, surfboards, cool blue wall paint, and a fun atmosphere.

The menu is displayed on electronic screens. There’s a nice selection of burgers, chicken, fried fish, and even lobster rolls (served only on the weekends). Deciding on what to get might be tough. We had our eyes set on The Norwalk Burger and the Fish and Chips.

Interior of The Beach Burger

We grabbed a seat and sipped an ice cold Orangeade – lightly sweetened, and oh-so-refreshing. Finally my name was called, and the anticipation was over – waiting to sink my teeth into The Norwalk Burger – an Angus Burger topped with Caramelized Onion, Blue Cheese and Mushrooms. The presentation was dare I say, cute, an open-faced burger with a cocktail umbrella on top. Neighboring the burger was the delicious fries – thin, crispy fries. My husband likes his burger well done, but even though it was cooked that way, the burger was still juicy and flavorful. He described the burger as tasting like a homemade burger, which is a good thing.

My fish and chips were great. An order comes with three pieces of beer battered cod fish with malt vinegar coleslaw and homemade chips, all for $10. The fish was very moist and the batter was decent – it could have been cooked for another minute because the inside wasn’t perfectly cooked. No worries, I still ate the fish, without the batter. Next time I’ll order it, I’ll ask for it very well done to be sure I get perfectly cooked batter. The coleslaw was excellent. I’m usually not a fan of coleslaw but theirs was pretty good. Of course the fries didn’t last long.

The Beach Burger also serves gigantic milkshakes for $5. The flavors on the menu are:

Sandy Beach – Coffee Ice Cream – Oreo – Chocolate Syrup – Whipped Cream
PB&J – Vanilla Ice Cream – Chocolate Syrup – Whipped Cream
Banana Foster – Vanilla Ice Cream – Banana – Caramel
Nut Crusher – Vanilla Ice Cream – Nutella – Crushed Peanuts
Twinkie – Vanilla Ice Cream – Twinkie – Vanilla Syrup
Apple Pie – Vanilla Ice Cream – Carmelized Apples – Graham Cracker
Strawberry Cheesecake – Vanilla Ice Cream – Cheesecake – Strawberry Preserve – Graham Cracker

Can you guess the top sellers? Well, they are the top two on my list: Sandy Beach and Nut Crusher. Going with the cashier’s recommendation, we ordered the Nut Crusher and watched them make it: 4 scoops of vanilla ice cream, a huge scoop of Nutella, a cup of crushed peanuts, and a cup of milk blended to perfection topped with whipped cream and more crushed peanuts. Should I have asked for more Nutella – nah. The milkshake put a big smile on my face with the flavors dancing in my mouth. Definitely one of the best milkshakes I’ve ever had. Oh, and when I say the milkshakes are gigantic – they are – enough to share with someone else. Or maybe you could have it all to yourself. 😉

If milkshakes aren’t your thing, they’ve also got fried Oreos, Nutter Butters, Snickers and Twinkies.

I’ll be back for more…and I’ll let you know how the Sandy Beach milkshake is…
