Brussels: Délirium Café

A 2 liter glass of Délirium Tremens

If you’re near the Grand Place in Brussels be sure to stop by Délirium Café, the bar with the Guinness World Record for having a list of over 2,000 beers. It’s tucked in an alleyway where you’ll find Jannekin Pis.

There are two floors to the bar – filled with locals and people from all over the world. It’s cool hearing tons of languages being spoken at one time, but not cool with the clouds of smoke in the bar. Being a New Yorker, I’ve gotten accustomed to the smoking ban in restaurants and bars.

In the basement, you can hear live bands/musicians play on Thursday nights, and there’s a bar too.

Alright, so what did I drink?

Délirium Tremens, not in a glass, not in a boot, but in a 2 liter glass. Why not? It was my birthday and a lot of beer for only 18€, with a 40€ deposit. You get the deposit back when you return the glass.

Green Cactus Pulp Beer – doesn’t sound appetizing but it was actually good, or maybe I was fooled after guzzling the 2 liters of Délirium. On the sweet side, and green – I’d try it again.

Duvel – you can’t skip on having Duvel (“Devil”) while in Belgium.

If you can’t decide what beer to get, ask the friendly bartenders. They can help you narrow down the 2000+ beer list.

Délirium Café was also featured on the show Three Sheets with Zane Lamprey. Check it out for his experience.
