Bruges: ‘T Voutje

Not all my reviews are positive. When you’re on vacation it’s hard to trust travel books, the busy-ness of a restaurant, or sometimes your instincts. I can at least advise you on where not to dine in Bruges – ‘T Voutje.

‘T Voutje is a restaurant in Bruges, a block away from Markt (Market Square). It’s hard to find a good restaurant in this area when every restaurant has the same menu, similar prices, and a bunch of tourists dining al fresco. I’m trying to remember what lured me here – was it the moules frites that the diners were eating? the prix fixe menu? or the fact that there weren’t many people smoking in the area.
Well, we did dine here, and to be honest, we were not impressed by the food.
A prix fixe menu consists of 3 courses – appetizer, main course and a small dessert for about 15€. You’ll see what we ordered in my photos below. My camera makes the food look better than it actually tastes. Overall the food was okay, nothing great.

Overpriced Garlic Bread (this is really 2 orders for 4€) – ripoff

Pâté
Carbonnade Flamade
Croque Monsieur, 9€ (on the a la carte menu)

Do yourself a favor. Save your money and go elsewhere. And what you’ll see in TripAdvisor reviews – it’s a tourist trap. Again, lesson learned for me – do research before dining out. The only thing I liked here was the Brugs Whitbier.
