Stamford, CT: Tabouli Grill

Kafta pita

Tabouli Grill serves Israeli and Middle Eastern food just north of Downtown Stamford.

Pita sandwiches range from $8.50 to $11, depending on the ‘stuffing.’ All pitas are stuffed with Israeli Salad, Hummus and Tahina. If you’ve got an appetite, go for an “upgrade” and get a platter. Grilled meat platters are served with Israeli Salad and a choice of one side.

When dining in, you are served a small plate of pickles and red cabbage. We tried the kafta and lamb kabob pitas. Both were delicious.

As for the lamb, we were a bit skeptical on ordering it in a pita, because we thought it would be tough. The lamb was actually cooked perfectly, and was very tender.

Oh, don’t forget to ask for some hot sauce. They’ll give you two small servings – one a green, milder hot sauce; the other was habanero (much hotter).

I was a bit disappointed they didn’t (and still don’t) serve schawarma on weekends, but the lamb kabob made up for it. I’ll have to stop by next time to see how it is.

How does this compare to its Stamford competitors – Myrna’s and Layla’s? I’d place this in 3rd. I’d still come back, to try the schawarma.
