Key Food Marketplace finally opens in Stamford, CT

Update April 29, 2011
Walking by I noticed that the Key Food logo was removed and various posters were hung, in English and Spanish: The Marketplace (La Marqueta) coming soon.

Original Post
On Jan 27, 2011, Key Food Marketplace finally opened its doors on 80-82 Prospect St, the former location of Family Dollar which closed down in 2008. Key Food Marketplace is a convenient location for people who live in Downtown Stamford – an area where there are tons of condos, but no food marts, with the exception of Target, which has a mini-market for essential items. All other grocery stores are at least a mile away from the city center – Super Stop and Shop, Fairway Market, and Whole Foods Market, which is a town away, in Darien.

I just took a peek in the store to see what goods they had to offer in case I was missing ingredients in my kitchen and didn’t want to trek out to the supermarket. All the basics are there – juice, milk, eggs, meat, the deli section, and produce. The vegetables were not looking as pretty as they do in the market giants, but still consumable. The prices were also reasonable.

Hmm…I don’t remember if they sold beer. I’ll double check next time.
