NYC: Financier Pattiserie, Chelsea

Financier Pattiserie (Twitter handle @FinancierNYC) just opened a new shop in the Chelsea neighborhood on December 20th. Quoting their website:

With multiple locations throughout Manhattan, Financier Patisserie serves and succeeds in satisfying New York’s sweet tooth. Financier Patisserie specializes in traditional and signature French pastries while also offering an exceptional selection of espresso, coffees and savory dishes daily.

And, yes they do. This is now my favorite stop for an afternoon coffee and pastry. Previously it was Eataly which is a couple blocks away. Aside from pastries, you can also order sandwiches, soups, and salads. One of the great lunch specials available is their Financier Lunchbox (Any 1/2 sandwich and  soup) deal for $8.00.

The sandwiches are made fresh when you order them, so be prepared to wait a few minutes for your savory creation. The wait is well worth it. My first choice was the French Onion soup with a Le Parisian sandwich (ham, brie, and dijon mustard). The hot pressed sandwich was delicious, but the soup was lacking flavor. Perhaps I had my expectations set too high for a small cafe. And a little treat is served with your sandwich – provencal olives.

Despite the French Onion soup, I still come back for more. Their mini-madeleines and chocolate croissants are my favorite pastries. I have yet to try out all the other treats on display.

Financier Pattiserie also brews great coffee, which is served with a small financier. A great afternoon treat.
