Food52 Piglet Party 2010

Tuesday night I attended Food52’s Piglet Party. I got a lot of questions: what’s a…piglet party? I just called it a food party – we’re celebrating food and cookbooks.

So where’s what went down

Lots of oohs and aahs from the audience, and a couple of chuckles. I wasn’t very amused by the panel discussion. I just wanted to mingle more with the vendors present.

The food

Lush Candy’s toffee

Salumeria Rosi was a hit, offering samples of prosciutto and ham. Perfectly paired with my glass of Hanna Winery’s Sauvignon Blanc.

Peck’s Paté offered samples of chicken paté. Yes, chicken paté. It was actually very good. This might be harsh, but it reminded me of potted meat.

Lush Candy – wholesale only. Sigh. The served delicious chocolate covered toffee. My favorite treat was the Dark Chocolate Almond toffee. My husband enjoyed their chocolate-covered marshmallow.

Liddabit Sweets had little baggies of Bourbon-Coffee-Bacon Caramel Corn – a tad bit too sweet for my liking, but I seemed like a big hit amongst the crowd of foodies.

My favorite treat of the night was the Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream from Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream (Twitter handle @VLAIC).

An interesting treat was June Taylor Company‘s candied citrus peel. I think from having endless sweets, the citrus threw me off. I might have to give this another shot to give a better assessment.

The Piglet Cocktail was the specialty drink of the night made of pickle juice and tomato juice – after a sip, I was done – very salty.

Sorry, I don’t have any decent photos to share – the lighting was very dim and anyway, my hands were full – drink in one hand, food in the other.
