Honolulu, HI: Curry House CoCo Ichibanya

Curry House CoCo Ichibanya is a, for lack of a better term, curry house in the Ala Moana mall. Normally food court food is just ordinary food, but this is beyond delicious. My local friends in Hawaii mentioned this place as one of the best to get good Japanese curry, and boy were they right.

The menu a beauty, pictures of food, descriptions, and prices. I was busy “Mmm-ing” and trying to decide what to get. The locals behind me were probably annoyed because I took forever to place my order, but hey, I wanted everything and it was hard to narrow it down to one choice. In addition, there’s a bunch of toppings to choose from as well priced from .50 to $2.50. Oh, I forgot to mention, you can choose the amount of rice you want: 200g or 500g. I think there was a third size, but 500g is good enough – that’s over 1 lb of rice.

Pictured to the right, my friend ordered shrimp cutlets, or is it croquettes with hot dogs over rice. He’s sprinkling fukujinzuke (pickled vegetables in soy sauce), a common topping for Japanese curry.

Shabu curry with shrimp cutlet

My husband ordered the fried mahi mahi with spinach and cheese with mild curry ($8.45). I ordered the spicy Shabu curry with shrimp cutlets (or croquettes) for $8.20.

Both entrees were amazing. Salivating as I type this.

It’s been a while since I dined here, but you can get excellent curry in a hurry and at great prices (under $10).

Good news: There are 2 other locations if you don’t feel like going to Ala Moana mall.
