Monday night dinner

Wasn’t sure what to prepare for dinner, but all I knew was I had pork chops defrosting in the fridge since this morning. I pondered throughout the day. I knew the wine from last night’s dinner would be good to drink. Last night we had our onlt bottle of 2003 Silver Thread Blackbird from Seneca Lake, NY. Looks like we may have to take another road trip to the Finger Lakes region to replenish our stock of wine. To the right is a picture taken along the Cayuga Wine trail – at the Seven Mile Creek vineyards.

Back to the story…so I went to Grand Central, ran some errands, went to Cucina to pick up some goodies – a flan tart for dessert, cookies for my boyfriend’s snack, and an Apple Turnover for tomorrow’s breakfast. So dessert and the choice of meat – check… Next up, side dish. I knew we had zucchini in the fridge… so I walked over to Grand Central Market and looked at each of the 12 vendors’ offerings. Ceriello Fine Foods had just what I wanted – fresh pasta and olives. And so, I picked up fettucini and rigatoni – hey…buy one get one free…might as well.

I boarded the 7:20-something train to Tarrytown and thought hard about what to prepare for dinner. As soon as I got to my boyfriend’s place – I turned on Genie, my PowerBook, and went to foodandwine.com and williamsonoma.com to find some recipes for pork chops. Food and Wine was the winner – Panko-Breaded Pork Chops. Side dish was Fettucini sauteed with zucchini, garlic, tomatoes, onions, olives (from the market) and olive oil.

Perfection! I’m very satisfied with my dinner. A glass of red wine did justice, and now I sit and type this. Feeling drowsy…
